Child care: What do you want in a national strategy?

Categories: Politics

hi-ignatieff-852-00429924-3col.jpgA Liberal government would get cash to the provinces for new daycare spaces as early as this summer, Michael Ignatieff said Thursday.

There wouldn't be any delay in starting the money because the party worked with the provinces to develop it, he said, speaking at a Winnipeg preschool.

Canadians have had a lot to say about child care issues on Twitter:

kevinmilligan: How about increasing the Child Care Expense Deduction limit? It's been stuck at $7K/kid since 1998. That's far less than most pay. #elxn41

DewdneyNDP: Does #LPC regret not bringing in a Child Care program in 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 or 2004? #elxn41

YaroslavB: Our $2.4 billion directly to parents was "beer & popcorn" to #LPC, but now $500m/yr will fix child care for a generation? Confused #elxn41

JamesIp: The difference between Cons and Libs child care plan is that the Libs have a plan, while Cons just want moms to stay home. #elxn41

roseneath_nd: My favourite election groundhog day is when the Liberals re-announce their child-care scheme. It's tomorrow you say? Great! #elxn41

scbritton: Ignatieff will take care of you like a child. Harper will empower you - so you can take care of yourself. #cdnpoli #elxn41
