Your Comments: Vampires win hands down

By Lorianna De Giorgio, guest blogger, Your Best Stuff

Apparently, when it comes to your choice between vampires and werewolves, vampires win hands down.

At least that's the case with the results from our Nov. 17 poll on which mythical figure from the flick, New Moon, you prefer.

Of the 162 votes that came in as of noon, Nov. 18, 45 per cent preferred the bloodsucking creatures, while only 20 per cent voted for the hairier werewolves.

Thirty-one per cent chose the answer "Who cares?" while four per cent of the vote went to the "Neither" response.

One reader from Campbell River, B.C., wrote that "having experienced being both," he preferred being a werewolf more because he could better blend in and "enjoy all that a human could."

A vampire's life was just too taxing for him, as he needed "blood to survive and couldn't enjoy the sunshine," Richard K joked.

We think.

Goodbye actual books?

With the holidays around the corner, we wanted to know: Would you buy Amazon's latest gizmo, the Kindle?

Most of you said no.

The majority of those who commented on our Nov. 17 Point of View surrounding the launch of the e-reader in Canada said they wouldn't purchase it.

Reasons for passing it by included your preference for being able to hold an actual book and the fact that the Kindle's web browser and blog subscription service will not work in Canada.

Cogito ergo est from Richmond Hill, Ont., wrote: "Canadians are only allowed to own a crippled Kindle. Thanks but no thanks."

Reader A Out West agreed, saying he already looks at a computer screen all day and didn't want to turn to another one when he wanted to read a book.

"I don't want another plastic tablet made from non-renewable resources," the Kelowna, B.C., reader wrote.

"I prefer the feel of a real book. One made with paper - from a recyclable resource - trees...and printed with ink made from vegetables."

Missing Jeopardy

Our Nov. 17 Point of View regarding the CRTC and if you would pay more for TV elicited 37 comments in less than 24 hours.

Most said they wouldn't pay more, alluding to the fact they weren't even happy with TV content these days.

Winnipeg's Rigel6pc said they would never pay for more TV because he spends more time on the computer where he can control his activities "without all the interruptions."

"In addition, [I] don't believe cable subscribers should have to keep on subsidizing programs that draw so few viewers, regardless of whether they're domestic content or not," Rigel6pc wrote. "So if my cable provider decided to jack up fees too high, I'd rather drop back to a lower tier of programming availability instead of paying for what I don't watch in the first place."

Sez Me agrees.

The Tignish, P.E.I., resident says they seldom watch TV since they go online to find their news. Life without TV is fine, they say.

What they do miss? Jeopardy.
