Former UN envoy for HIV and AIDS in Africa Stephen Lewis speaks about the issues of maternal health, accountability and transparency in global aid funding.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper is co-chair of a UN commission formed to ensure delivery of roughly $40 billion pledged to a mother-and-child health fund. The ambitious program comes on the heels of an audit of a global aid fund that found millions of dollars may have been misused. 

Stephen Lewis, a former UN envoy for HIV and AIDS in Africa, spoke to CBC News on Wednesday from New York about the issues of maternal health, accountability and transparency.
