The TTC is apologizing for leaving about a thousand passengers stuck on a subway for more than an hour Monday night before evacuating them along the tracks.

"We do apologize for the discomfort and for the length of time that people did have to wait on the train, and again, thank them for their patience ultimately," said TTC spokesman Brad Ross.

The TTC faced "circumstances that were beyond our control," he said, and had to resolve a situation at St. George station that had a domino effect.

The TTC had to cut power to a section of track, and about a thousand passengers ended up stuck on a subway near Museum station for an hour with no power.

"I was a bit frustrated at the situation," said Kathleen Schofield. She said she tried to read a bit and sneak in a nap during the hour-long ordeal.

Eventually, the passengers were forced to disembark the train and walk along the tracks toward the station.
