Although media interviews are rare, Pope Francis has given a number of speeches and addresses on a variety of issues.

He has criticized the Argentine government and its approach to economic inequality, criticized aspects of the church and been a harsh critic on some social issues like same-sex marriage. Some quotes from the new pope:

On economic inequality

Vanity, showing off, is an attitude that reduces spirituality to a worldly thing, which is the worst sin that could be committed in the church.... Careerism and the search for a promotion come under the category of spiritual worldliness. Whoever gives in to such self-absorbed vanity has huge misery hiding inside them.”
