British pop singer Elton John and his Canadian partner, David Furnish, have become parents for a second time.
John made an announcement on his website that a new baby boy, born to a surrogate mother, arrived Friday at 6.40 p.m. in Los Angeles.
The newborn weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces.
“Elton and David are very pleased to announce the birth of their child Elijah Joseph Daniel Furnish-John on Friday, January 11,” the website posting says, referring readers to Hello online for more information.
John and Furnish already have a son, two-year-old Zachary, and John had expressed a wish that Zachary not be an only child. John, 65, and Furnish, 50, were wed in a British civil ceremony in 2005.
The two told Hello they are “overwhelmed with happiness and excitement.”
"Both of us have longed to have children, but the reality that we now have two sons is almost unbelievable. The birth of our second son completes our family in a most precious and perfect way,” they are quoted as saying.
