Los Angeles police have contacted their counterparts in Montreal about a possible connection between Luka Magnotta and the so-called Hollywood Hills murder case earlier this year, but the L.A. Times is reporting there is no link between the two.

Law enforcement sources in California have confirmed there is no link between Magnotta and the L.A. case, in which severed hands, feet and a head were found near the Hollywood sign, according to the L.A. Times.

Dog walkers hiking in Bronson Canyon Park made the gruesome discovery in January.

The victim was identified as 66-year-old Hervey Medellin, a retired Mexicana Airlines employee.

The case remains unsolved.

Magnotta, 29, was arrested in Berlin earlier this week and is awaiting extradition back to Canada.

He is accused of killing and dismembering 33-year-old Montreal student Jun Lin and sending the body parts to the offices of the Conservative and Liberal parties.

Originally from China, Lin came to Canada as a foreign exchange student before becoming a permanent resident, according to his friend.
