Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh fired his entire cabinet on Sunday as the pressure on him to step aside grew dramatically.

The announcement followed a declaration by members of Saleh's own tribe who called for him to relinquish power.

Yemen has been the scene of large anti-government protests for the last month. But in the last few days, the government's crackdown has been especially violent.

Reports say at least 46 and as many as 52 protesters were shot and killed Friday by snipers. Funerals for many of them took place Sunday in the capital, Sanaa.

So far, Saleh has resisted demands for his resignation. He has led the state on the Arabian Peninsula for 32 years.
