Canada has strong bilateral relations with Jordan, according to a government website and maintains its embassy in the capital city of Amman.

The site says Jordan is a natural partner for Canada, describing it as a moderate Arab state with a constructive foreign policy.

In 2009, the two countries signed a free-trade pact, after a visit by then International Trade Minister Stockwell Day. Commentators said the deal would benefit Canada's forestry, manufacturing and agricultural sectors.

On March 24, 2010, the government introduced legislation to implement the Canada-Jordan Free Trade, Labour Cooperation and Environmental Agreements but it has not yet been ratified.

Textile products make up three quarters of all imports from Jordan. Canadian exports, on the other hand, are quite varied, with sizeable proportions of vehicles and equipment, mechanical machinery and lumber products.

Canada is actively involved in humanitarian causes within the country through the UN Relief and Works Agency, as Jordan has a high large population of Palestinian refugees. Additionally, it gave $6.2 million in development aid in 2008, which made Canada the fifth largest donor in Jordan.

More than two thirds of the 6900 respondents from the 2006 census who said they were of Jordanian descent lived in Ontario.
