Air Canada and Sunwing Airlines have been given approval by Transport Canada to add new direct flights between Canada and Mexico.
Air Canada is offering three new direct flights to Mexico, departing from Montreal, St. John's and Regina. (Frank Gunn/Canadian Press)New Air Canada routes will link Regina with Cancun, St. John's with Cancun and Montreal with Cozumel. Sunwing will also provide service between Montreal and Cozumel.
"These designations of Air Canada and Sunwing Airlines demonstrate the excellent working relationship between Canada and Mexico," said Transport Minister Chuck Strahl in a release.
"They will also benefit Canadians by providing greater choice for travel between both countries."
However, the new flights aren't likely to make up for routes that were lost when Mexicana Airlines ceased operations last week.
The Mexican airline provided direct flights from Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver to various destinations in Mexico.
