The date has been set for Conrad Black's appeal to be heard of his 2007 convictions on three counts of fraud.
The case will be heard by a panel of three judges in Chicago on Sept. 29.
The judges will decide how the case against the Montreal-born ex-media baron will proceed.
This comes after the U.S. Supreme Court narrowed the scope of the so-called "honest services fraud" theory, saying it should apply only to bribes or kickbacks.
Black is free on bail after serving two and-a-half years in a Florida prison.
Recently, he dropped his request to be allowed to return to his Toronto mansion.
He agreed to stay in the United States while the courts ponder his appeal, which could bring his case to a close.
