Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill
In Depth
BP has an underwater camera monitoring the massive oil spill on the sea floor of the Gulf of Mexico, and now the U.S. Congress has made the footage public.
"Allowing the public to view this video could provide our best scientists and engineers with information that could be helpful in developing much-needed solutions to the ongoing oil spill," said Representative Ed Markey, a Massachusetts Democrat, who pushed BP to make the video available.
However, the live stream was unavailable as of 10:30 a.m. Friday due to reported high traffic.
Below is a video of the leak, which Senator Bill Nelson obtained from BP and posted on his website Friday morning in place of the live footage.
