Two United Arab Emirate base jumpers broke a world record by leaping off the world's tallest skyscraper in Dubai, plunging 672 metres safely to ground.

Omar Al Hegelan and Nasser Al Neyadi made the authorized jump off the 160th floor of the Burj Khalifa, taking only 90 seconds to reach the ground and free-falling at speeds of up to nearly 220 km/h.

The daredevils had been given permission to make the jump. After free-falling for about 10 seconds, they deployed their parachutes for the rest of the trip down.

The full height of the tower is more than 160 storeys high, rising 828 metres into the sky.

Al Niyadi described the jump as "the best experience ever."

"When we were at the top of the building I was thinking, 'This is crazy,'" he told gulfnews.com. "I was a little nervous, but I wanted to jump from the highest tower in the world to record an achievement for my family and for my country."

"As soon as we reached the ground I looked up and just thought, 'Wow, I have completed over 2,700 jumps, but this was the most amazing.'"

The jump was recorded on a helmet camera.
