Brazil's Amazonas state is paying its citizens to protect the environment where they live in a bid to protect the world's largest tropical rainforest, known as the "lungs of the planet."
Reporters Connie Watson and Kas Roussy travelled to the Rio Negro forest reserve and spoke with locals participating in a conservation program. See pictures of their journey in the photo gallery below.
