Tropical storm warning issued for Baja

(Weather Underground/Associated Press)A tropical storm warning remained posted for the southern tip of Mexico's Baja Peninsula as weakening tropical storm Patricia approached the popular tourist destination.
The warning, issued early Tuesday, extends from Agua Blanca to Buenavista and south, an area that includes the resort town of Cabo San Lucas on the tip of the peninsula. A tropical storm watch also remains in effect on the west and east coasts of the peninsula north of the storm warning area.
Tropical storm Patricia became a named storm on Sunday, but by 2 p.m. PDT Tuesday, the storm had began to weaken. Its sustained winds decreased to 85 km/h from 95 km/h.
The storm is centred about 135 kilometres southeast of the peninsula and is moving at speeds of about 11 km/h. It is expected to make its closest approach to the peninsula late Tuesday or early Wednesday.
On Monday, the port of Cabo San Lucas was closed to small craft, and Mayor Rene Nunez said officials are evaluating whether to evacuate low-lying areas.
Forecasters said Patricia is expected to dump up to 75 millimetres of rain on the region.
