Hurricane Felicia is expected to weaken as it passes over cooler Pacific waters, while tropical storm Enrique has already weakened, forecasters said Thursday.

Felicia, currently a Category 4 hurricane, has maximum sustained winds of 220 km/h, the U.S.-based National Hurricane Center said in its Thursday update.

The storm is roughly 2,400 kilometres off the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula and is moving west-northwest.

It is supposed to weaken over the next several days as it moves over colder water.

Enrique's sustained winds have dropped to 65 km/h as it passes over cooler waters about 1,800 kilometres west of the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula.

"Enrique is expected to become a remnant low in a day or so," said the update.

It is moving in a northwest direction, but will shift to the west-northwest and continue along that path until it dissipates, said the Hurricane Center.
