Montreal woman pleads guilty to U.S. telemarketing fraud

A Canadian woman has pleaded guilty in New Hampshire to defrauding elderly Americans in an international telemarketing scheme.
Deborah Wasserman of Montreal was one of 15 Canadians indicted in 2002 after an investigation revealed the group defrauded about 80 victims.
The group allegedly told victims they had won large lottery prizes, but had to prepay Canadian taxes and fees to get the cash.
The U.S. Attorney's Office says nine others already have been sentenced to federal prison terms.
