O.J. Simpson was formally charged Tuesday with 10 felonies, including kidnapping, in connection with an armed robbery of sports memorabilia at a hotel, prosecutors in Las Vegas said.

The former football star had been arrested Sunday on suspicion of assault and robbery with a deadly weapon. Court documents show the district attorney filed those charges Tuesday and a number of other charges, including kidnapping and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.

If convicted, he could face life in prison.

Simpson is being held in jail and is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday, when a bail hearing could also take place.

Police allege Simpson and up to six others stole football memorabilia from a room at the Palace Station casino-hotel in Las Vegas. Simpson, a former Heisman Trophy winner for excellence in college football, has claimed the memorabilia is his.

Three people are still being sought in the robbery — two of whom were expected to surrender to police on Tuesday.

The lawyer for a man who turned himself in to police Monday night said his client might help prosecutors in the case against Simpson, the CBC's Steve Futterman reported.

The incident has brought Simpson's 1995 acquittal in the deaths of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman back to headlines.

Goldman's family planned to file a request in a California Superior Court Tuesday to obtain ownership of the seized football memorabilia.

The Goldman and Brown families won a $30-million US wrongful-death civil suit against Simpson in 1996. The Goldman family has been trying to track down various Simpson assets as part of the settlement and claims it is still owed millions of dollars.
