The body of a Florida woman who was missing for nearly two weeks has been found — wedged upside-down behind a bookshelf in her room in her family's home.

After Mariesa Weber, 38, disappeared from the home in New Port Richey on Oct. 28, her relatives contacted police. They searched for her for nearly two weeks, fearing she had been abducted.

Even though they had already looked through Weber's room, her sister went back in on Nov. 9 and noticed a foot behind a bookcase, according to newspaper reports on the weekend.

Weber is believed to have fallen headfirst and become stuck as she tried to fiddle with a television set's plug at an outlet behind the bookshelf.

Police said they suspect Weber was unable to breathe in the position and suffocated.

They don't consider the death to be suspicious.

"I'm sleeping in the same house as her for 11 days, looking for her," her mother, Connie Weber, told the St. Petersburg Times.

"And she's right in the bedroom."

Weber's family told the paper they didn't think she was able to budge the bookshelf because she was petite, at 5-foot-3 and barely 100 pounds, while the bookshelf was heavy and about 10 centimetres taller.

They said they had noticed a strange smell in Weber's bedroom but attributed it to other causes.
