Haiti has delayed its elections again, now setting Jan. 8 for the vote for a president and 129 legislative seats.

A runoff is set for Feb. 15 and municipal elections for March 5, the country's electoral board said Friday.

This is the first vote since 2004 when President Jean-Bertrand Aristide was forced out. It was originally set for Nov. 13. That date was established by the constitution.

It was then moved to Dec. 27, but it was feared that turnout would be low because of Christmas.

The board decided the country was not prepared for the vote, lacking trained poll workers, equipment, and printed ballots.

A many as 35 candidates are expected to run for president and hundreds for the legislature.

Haiti, a very poor country, has been in turmoil since Aristide was deposed.

After being forced out, he fled to South Africa.

Canada has along history in Haiti, recently sending aid and soldiers to help keep the peace.

On Friday, the government announced a $33 million aid package to support justice, health and education.
