Carl Zetterlund, a Swedish man who survived a helicopter crash on his 100th birthday, has died of his injuries.

Zetterlund, his son, grandson and great-grandson were taking a helicopter flight to the Stockholm archipelago on Tuesday to celebrate his birthday.

But the Lithuanian-registered MI-2 helicopter crashed shortly after leaving the nursing home in Heby, about 100 kilometres northwest of Stockholm.

Everyone on the flight survived with nothing more than cuts and bruises, but the 100-year-old Zetterlund was flown to Uppsala University Hospital as a precaution.

He had been in stable condition at the time of the crash, but his condition worsened and he died on Friday, said the hospital.

Prosecutors are investigating the crash, which was captured by a Swedish television crew.
