Interpol supported an international call on Wednesday for the arrest of Alberto Fujimori, the former Peruvian president charged with murder and kidnapping.

The international police organization issued a statement saying Fujimori's arrest is justified.

Fujimori is believed to have authorized the massacre of suspected rebels in Peru in the 1990s. Peruvian authorities last week charged him with corruption and illegally authorizing millions of dollars in government purchases.

Peru issued an arrest warrant for Fujimori in 2001. Fujimori was born in Peru to Japanese immigrants. Tokyo has not extradited Fujimori to Peru because he is a Japanese citizen.

Fujimori has been living in self-imposed exile in Japan since his scandal-ridden government toppled in 2000.
