The government of Sudan is expressing reservations about Canada's appointment of a new special envoy for the Sudanese peace process.

Officials in Khartoum say they were not consulted.

Sudanese Foreign Minister Mustafa Ismail says the appointment of Sen. Mobina Jaffer has still not been approved by Sudanese authorities.

The government in Khartoum and rebels of the Sudan People's Liberation Army signed a peace accord in July.

It is aimed at ending the country's 19-year-old civil war.

The fighting has killed an estimated two million people. Another four million have been displaced.
