A soccer field remained closed in central Mexico Saturday as authorities investigated a lightning strike that killed six teenagers.

The boys, in their early teens, died Friday after taking shelter under a tree during a sudden storm. They had been practising soccer when the weather turned bad.

The lightning bolt hit the tree, which cracked, caught fire and fell down on them.

Six children were killed instantly. Four others were taken to hospital to be treated for severe burns and head injuries.

There were reports that the young players had not been properly supervised at the time of the tragedy. Gov. Victor Manuel Tinoco ordered the park closed until officials finish their investigation.
