Two professional divers were arrested Saturday for allegedly taking money from the bodies of passengers who drowned when a ferry capsized in Lake Kivu in the Congolese city of Goma.

After the arrests, the rescue operation continued with youths working without diving equipment.

Naval authorities from neighbouring Rwanda ordered the professional divers to remove their equipment and wet suits. Rwandan navy officer Firmin Bayingana said he found Congolese franc notes tied to the divers' bodies.

The ferry capsized when a sudden downpour sent passengers who were waiting at a dock rushing to get onto the vessel.

Thirty bodies have been recovered. Officials fear there may be 100 more trapped inside the ferry.
