Politicians from Rwanda and Uganda began meeting Monday in an effort to prevent their troops from shooting at each other in the Congolese city of Kisangani.

The city is held by opposing Congolese rebel factions.

Each gets support from a different foreign army -- one from Uganda, the other Rwanda.

The diplomatic efforts are an attempt to resolve what has become a crisis between Uganda and Rwanda.

There are fears that the latest fierce fighting in Kisangani could wreck a peace deal signed last month.

The forces supported by the two countries are rival factions of the main rebel group fighting to oust Congolese President Laurent Kabila.
