Pirjo Haggman was one of 13 IOC members to be entangled in the Salt Lake City corruption scandal.
"The IOC president thanks Mrs. Haggman for all the services which she gave to the Olympic movement as an athlete and as a member of the organization," the IOC president Juan Antonio Samaranch said in a statement Tuesday.
Haggman's ex-husband reportedly got a job with the Ontario provincial government through the head of Toronto's bid for the 1996 Olympics, Paul Henderson. The job may have included a rental house paid for by Toronto's Olympic committee.
The scandal emerged this month when reports surfaced of gifts, scholarships and cash being given to IOC members by supporters of Salt Lake City's bid for the 2002 winter games.
Haggman, 47, competed in the 1972, 1976, and 1980 Olympics as a middle-distance runner. She became a member of the IOC in 1980.
