A plane carrying NATO peacekeepers home from Kosovo crashed in Hungary on Friday morning, killing all but one of the 45 people aboard.

The plane, a Slovak army aircraft, was headed for the Slovak military base in Kosice when it went down near the village of Telkibanya, about 250 kilometres from Budapest.

A spokesman for the Hungarian police said one person on the plane survived.

A NATO officer in Kosovo said the plane was carrying 28 Slovak soldiers returning home after a six-month tour of duty in the province.
