Central Florida police released a video Monday of a daycare centre director allegedly hitting and dropping a child on a mat.

Police in Clermont say the cellphone video shows a woman striking a four-year-old boy multiple times with what appears to be a stuffed animal.

The video also shows the woman allegedly holding the child about 90 centimetres in the air before dropping him face down on the mat.

The child was not hurt.

Police say a co-worker of the director sent them the video because she was "uncomfortable" with her behaviour.

Kimberly Reid was arrested and charged Jan. 29 with child abuse.

Police say there is no evidence any other children were abused.
