A landslide spawned by heavy rains has killed at least 12 people and injured 30 in southwestern Colombia, officials say.

Narino province's government secretary, Fabio Trujillo, says Thursday's slide buried four or five houses, several cars and a billiard parlour in the township of La Cruz.

Narino region emergency co-ordinator Lina Dorado says no people are known to be missing.

The Colombian government and Red Cross say the year's heavy rains have killed at least 290 people in the country.
