The man who oversees the popular online community Reddit talks to CBC Radio's The Current about his desire for a free and open internet.

The man who oversees Reddit, a hugely popular online community and one of the internet's main viral-enablers, talks to CBC Radio's The Current, about his desire for a free and open internet and what — if anything — should be out of bounds.

Erik Martin also discusses Reddit co-founder Aaran Swartz, who was found dead of an apparent suicide in his Brooklyn, N.Y., apartment last month.

"It's a tragedy. He was a very passionate and brilliant individual," Martin says.

"He was caught in a particular part of the legal system that was written and designed 30-40 years ago that no long applies and was wielded in a a very heavy-handed way."
