American reality TV star Kim Kardashian was second-most searched person in her home country, but reached the top spot on the Canadian Bing search site. Canadian PressJustin Bieber is the king of the web in the U.S. but gets less love from his home country, according to year-end search results from Bing.com.
According to Microsoft's search engine, Bieber was the top searched person in the United States in 2011 but barely cracked the Top 10 list in Canada at No. 9.
The top searched celebrity in Canada was Kim Kardashian, while she was second in the U.S.
Most of the same names made both lists — including Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga and Megan Fox — although Kanye West made the Top 10 in Canada and Miley Cyrus was popular in the U.S.
While the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton was the top searched news event of the year in Canada — the Casey Anthony trial was tops in the U.S. — neither cracked the list of top searched people in Canada or the U.S. But Middleton's sister, Pippa, was No. 4 on the Canadian list.
Other top searched news stories in both countries were the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Osama bin Laden's death, Hurricane Irene, and the 9-11 anniversary.
Apple's iPhone 5 was the most-searched for consumer electronics product in Canada, while Bing says Microsoft's Xbox and Kinect were tops in the U.S.
