When Andy Warhol said in 1968 that "everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes," he may have foreshadowed YouTube.

The popular video-sharing website now says it is ready to increase the limit it places on video uploads to 15 minutes — from 10.

Joshua Siegel, a YouTube product manager, said in a blog post that increasing the time limit had been the No. 1 requested feature by contributors.

"We've heard you," he said.

Official YouTube partners have had the option of uploading longer videos for some time, but the new upload limit applies to anyone.

The website, owned by Google, said it is satisfied its Content ID technology, which automatically removes copyright violations from the site, is working well enough to allow larger downloads.

An estimated 24 hours worth of video are being uploaded to the video-sharing site every minute, YouTube said last March.
