A Regina web developer is helping pro athletes connect with fans through the internet.

Jeff Armstead has helped design an online presence for such CFL notables as Darian Durant, Geroy Simon and Henry Burris.

"The CFL is sort of my bread and butter," Armstead said of his current roster of 16 athletes for his company inthetunnel.com. "I like those guys a lot. They're really down to earth."

Armstead says players are conscientious about their web pages and when fans send in a note, they are good about replying.

He said creating and maintaining web pages for athletes had modest beginnings when he designed a fan page to follow Mike Bibby, a favourite in the NBA.

Things took off when Kerry Joseph was with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He helped the quarterback launch a website and quickly discovered there was huge appetite for that approach to fan contact.

"I don't think anyone in the CFL had a website at the time," Armstead said. "So we started up. The first year was pretty good. Obviously in '07 — the Grey Cup year — it went really well."

Word-of-mouth helped add more players to Armstead's list of clients, which now totals 16.

He said if he can get a few more signed on and branch into the ranks of the NHL, he could turn what has been a sideline hobby into a full-time business.
