Two New Brunswick cities have failed to win the title of the most intelligent community in the world in an international broadband award ceremony held Friday in New York.

Moncton and Fredericton were both up for the Intelligent Communities Award but lost to Stockholm, Sweden.

This is the second time that Fredericton has been nominated for the award.

The award, which went last year to the Gangnam District of Seoul, South Korea, seeks to recognize cites for innovations in connectivity, broadband development, and engaging citizens in web use.

The award is sponsored by the Intelligent Community Forum, a think-tank that promotes broadband internet access.

Other cities in the event are in the United States, France, Estonia and the Netherlands.

N.B. Premier Shawn Graham made the trip to New York to be at the ceremony, along with delegations from Moncton and Fredericton.
