The Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation has announced Claude Haw will be its new president and CEO.

Haw took over as the head of the Ottawa-based economic development agency on Tuesday.

He succeeds Jeffrey Dale, who stepped down after heading up the non-profit agency for seven years.

OCRI assists Ottawa's business and technology sectors by helping local companies find their way in the global market.

"I was looking for a new challenge and it's a fairly complex environment," said Haw.

Haw has more than 30 years of experience in the technology sector and has been involved with more than 30 technology companies in the past two decades.

OCRI has encouraged development in clean technology and life sciences, he said, and will continue to help strengthen those areas of innovation.

"Particularly given the economic environment," he said, "there's a need to really focus on a few fundamental things to stimulate more economic development locally."
