Canadian new media firms have made a strong showing at the international Emmy awards for interactive content, taking two of four honours.

Children's website Zimmer Twins by zinc Roe Design of Toronto and the ReGenesis Extended Reality Game by Xenophile Media — based on the ReGenesis television series by Shaftesbury Films — tied in the Interactive Program category.

Bite Television of Mississauga, Ont., won the Emmy in the Interactive Channel category for its blend of content available on digital TV and on cellphone service carriers.

BBCi, the interactive arm of U.K. broadcaster BBC, won in the Interactive TV Service category, while the Pioneer Prize recognizing leadership in interactive media was presented to BskyB, a branch of U.K. broadcaster Sky Entertainment, for innovative contributions in interactive television.

The awards, the second year they are being offered, were presented at a black-tie event attended by more than 250 international industry executives in Cannes, France, Wednesday night.

The International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is the world's largest organization of global broadcasters, with members from nearly 70 countries and over 400 companies. The Academy was founded in 1969 to promote excellence in international television programming.
