A Canadian professor is set to be honoured on Wednesday for answering more science and math questions online than anyone in the world.

University of Manitoba research scientist Dr. Gordon Glazner has become one of the top sources of information for Yahoo Inc.'s question and answer service used by more than 14 million people.

"It kind of gave me a platform to be a teacher to the world," Glazner, a cellular biologist, told the Winnipeg Free Press.

Glazner is to receive his award for answering more than 1,000 questions posted to Yahoo Answers at the service's one-year anniversary party in Sunnyvale, Calif.

Yahoo Answers lets users post questions to its website, which can then be answered by other users. The community then moderates the responses, ranking them for quality.

Glazner started answering science and math questions on the site after seeing that many of the explanations given were incorrect.

Users responded so positively to his answers that the site's ranking point system propelled him into the Top 25 users on the site.
