The Mozilla Foundation is rejecting claims of two flaws in the newest version of its newly released Firefox web browser, saying the reports are "just noise."

The non-profit organization, which released Firefox 2 on Tuesday, said alleged problems with the new browser reported on two popular computer security e-mail discussion lists were overblown and pose no real risk.

"I would call it just noise," CNET News quoted Mozilla's head of security, Window Snyder, on Wednesday.

A report on Symantec Corp.'s SecurityFocus Bugtraq e-mail discussion list suggested a flaw found in a previous version of Firefox had returned in the new release.

But the report is wrong, Snyder said. The original problem was fixed but a similar one that causes Firefox to crash does not expose users to a security breach, she said.

Mozilla is investigating a report on the Full Disclosure e-mail discussion list that a flaw in Firefox could help internet fraudsters but doesn't have enough information yet to identify whether a real problem exists.
