Honda is advising the owners of several models of snowblowers to stop using them immediately because they could pose a fire hazard.

A loose joint on the fuel tank can result in a gasoline leak, which could cause burns or serious injuries if the gas ignites, the company warns.

The recall affects 17,425 Honda snowblowers sold in Canada since 2005.

Health Canada says it has not had any reports of injuries or incidents from gas leaks on the snowblowers. However, it is warning owners that if they notice a gas leak they should immediately move the snowblower outside and away from any possible ignition sources such as heaters or electrical appliances.

The affected models are:

• HS724
• HS928
• HS1132
• HS1336i
• HSM1336i

Owners of the affected snowblowers should contact a Honda power equipment dealer for a free replacement of the fuel tank joint. Consumers can call Honda at 1-888-946-6329 or visit its website for more information.

This is the third snowblower recall in the past few months. All of them related to fuel leaks.

In October, Husqvarna Canada recalled 2,000 of its Poulin Pro snowblowers. In July, Toro Canada recalled 2,200 of its Power Clear 180 single-stage snowblowers.
