Canadian owners of the Honda Fit can relax, because not a single Canadian car is included in a worldwide recall of 1.35 million of the subcompacts.
Honda Fits sold in Canada are not included in a worldwide recall of 1.35 million of the vehicles because they have a different headlight system. (Mary Altaffer/Associated Press)The recall was ordered to fix defective wiring in the vehicle's headlights. A problem in the wiring harness for the headlight control switch can lead to corrosion causing the low-beam connector to overheat and fail.
That causes the loss of low-beam headlights in affected 2007 and 2008 vehicles.
However, a spokesman for Honda Canada told CBC News Canada is exempt from the recall, because of federal rules requiring cars to have daytime running lights.
As a result, Canadian cars have a different headlight system than cars sold in the rest of the world.
Honda says there have been no injuries or accidents as a result of the defect.
