Atlantic Canadians are the most likely to consider themselves to be good winter drivers, a recent poll by Angus Reid Public Opinion suggests.

In response to the survey, commissioned by TD Insurance, a solid 92 per cent of Atlantic Canadians said they had confidence taking on snow, sleet and ice while behind the wheel, compared to 88 per cent nationally.

The survey, which polled 1,027 people, revealed other interesting tidbits. It found drivers in British Columbia were more likely to stay home when it got nasty outside. Forty-two per cent said they would not drive in bad winter conditions, compared to 20 per cent nationally.

The survey also found the most anxious winter drivers were in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, with 63 per cent of drivers from those provinces saying they felt tense in bad weather, compared to 52 per cent nationally.

The poll has a margin of error of +/- 3.1 per cent, 19 times out of 20.
