About 900 Canadian-made Electrolux gas stoves have been recalled in the U.S. because of reports of carbon monoxide being released from the oven.

The fault lies with an incorrect part that feeds more fuel to the oven than can be burned efficiently, causing incomplete combustion and the release of carbon monoxide.

This poses a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning to consumers. Carbon monoxide is a toxic gas that is colourless, odourless, tasteless, and non-irritating, making it very difficult for people to detect.

Electrolux Home Products Inc., based in Augusta, Ga., and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission have received four reports of carbon monoxide being released from the ranges.

No injuries have been reported.

Consumers are advised immediately to stop using the range's oven and contact Electrolux for the Electrolux ICON or Sears for the Kenmore PRO to schedule a free repair.

The cooktop burners and the broiler as well as any clock and/or timer functions can still be used with no risk.
