Ontario's search for the worst roads in the province has begun.

The Canadian Automobile Association's seventh annual Worst Roads Campaign launched Wednesday and calls on drivers to report roads, bridges and highways that are in dire need of repair.

This year's theme is "It's in Your Hands."

Motorists can cast a ballot at a CAA Travel Centre, a CAA Approved Auto Repair Service or online, beginning Wednesday until Sept. 30.

The ballots will then be tallied by CAA's offices in north and east Toronto, Niagara and south-central Ontario and a top 20 list of the worst offenders will be drawn up.

According to Ciara Cronin, a communications specialist with CAA North and East Ontario, the results, likely released in the first week of October, will put pressure on municipalities to fix their roads.

Previous "winners" include Sudbury, Ottawa, Timmins and Thunder Bay.

"It's been quite a successful campaign," Cronin told CBC News. "Over 90 per cent of the roads on previous lists have been slated for repair or are under repair."
