The home renovation tax credit in the Jan. 27 budget applies to condominiums and even to eligible work undertaken by condo corporations.

The program will provide a 15 per cent income tax credit on eligible renovations work done after Jan. 27, 2009 and before Feb. 1, 2010. A consumer has to spend more than $1,000 but will not get any credit on spending over $10,000, capping the tax break at $1,350 (15 per cent of $9,000).

The break is available to about 4.6 million familes, and for dwellings including houses, cottages, and condominium units.

If a condominium corporation undertakes a job on common areas that is eligible, the members of the condo can claim their share of that spending.
