The Saskatchewan government has issued a cease-and-desist order against a U.S. telemarketing company that sells car warranties.
The Saskatchewan Financial Services Commission issued the order Friday against World Wide Warranty, Inc. of St. Louis, Missouri.
World Wide Warranty, also known as Canadian Auto Warranty Services, was calling potential customers at home to try to sell them extended warranties on their cars.
"Operators like this threaten the security of the people of this province," Justice Minister Don Morgan said in a news release.
The province says car warranties are a form of insurance and the company isn't licensed to sell insurance in Saskatchewan.
The company will have a chance to plead its case to continue to do business in Saskatchewan at a Dec. 22 hearing.
