Lego and Kellogg's will stop making their Lego-shaped candy by year's end, Consumers International reported Friday.

The non-profit coalition of consumer advocacy groups in early December awarded the companies its dubious Blindingly Obvious Danger Award, suggesting the block-shaped treats pose a serious safety hazard to young children unable to differentiate between the candy and the plastic building toy.

According to Consumers International, a statement from Lego said both companies took careful measures to ensure children could distinguish the candies from the plastic toys, but noted the product would no longer be made by the end of 2008.

Consumers International noted in early December that Fun Snacks — which had been produced for the North American market — were no longer readily available in stores, though they were still being sold online.
