The Atlanta Braves placed third baseman Chipper Jones and pitcher Tim Hudson on the 15-day disabled list on Monday.

Both players were injured in last Wednesday's 9-4 victory over the Florida Marlins, but the moves are retroactive to July 25.

Jones, who leads the major leagues with a .369 batting average, injured his left hamstring, while Hudson was forced to leave in the seventh inning because of tightness in his pitching elbow.

"It is disappointing," Jones said.

Moreover, Braves catcher Brian McCann revealed Monday that he is sidelined three or four games with a mild concussion, sustained in a collision at home plate during Sunday's 12-10 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.

"I feel like I thought would — headache, neck hurts, jaw is sore," he said.

"I felt like I could have helped us that last series [at Philadelphia] and maybe pushed us over the top," Jones said.

To replenish the roster, Atlanta recalled pitcher Charlie Morton and catcher Clint Sammons from the minors, activated reliever Jeff Bennett from the DL, plus optioned reliever Jo-Jo Reyes to the triple-A Richmond Braves.

"You cannot sustain the injuries that we have sustained and expect to stay competitive at or near the top of the division," Jones said. "It is impossible.

"Especially when we're replacing guys like myself, [John] Smoltz and [Tom] Glavine and [Rafael] Soriano and [Peter] Moylan with minor-league guys. You're just not going to get the same results."

"It is ridiculous," Braves second baseman Kelly Johnson said. "[But] we're not giving up."

Atlanta entered Monday's action 7½ games behind the front-running New York Mets in the National League East Division.
