Consumers should avoid purchasing products purporting to be fuel-saving devices, Canada's competition watchdog says

Claims that a product will boost fuel efficiency and reduce emissions are hollow, the Competition Bureau said Thursday, noting most such claims are unproven.

In the United States, a probe of more than 100 such devices conducted by federal Environmental Protection Agency found the claims were false.

The U.S. agency said in recent years it has taken action for making false claims against companies including Econopro, Fuel Saver Pro and Platinum Vapour Injector.

The bureau suggests Canadian consumers should be wary of such products claiming to be endorsed by the government.
