A Manitoba tour company is experiencing a surge in inquiries from potential customers after it made the New York Times' list of 31 unique places to visit this summer.
Northern Soul Wilderness Adventures made No. 30 on the list, published in Sunday's paper. The yoga retreat was described as taking place in "backwoods and glacial lakes outside Winnipeg," where participants are "surrounded by nothing but pine and scurrying chipmunks."
Owner Dave Pancoe said the three-day yoga retreat includes yoga and canoeing — not necessarily at the same time — in the Caddy Lake area of Whiteshell Provincial Park.
"Yeah, you're not doing, like, yoga in the canoe … but you could try if you wanted," he said with a laugh.
"We all get into the canoes, paddle out to a campsite — and we've kind of got a few in mind that we know work well that have big flat spots to do yoga — and we get to the campsite and we usually do two yoga sessions a day, one in the evening and one in the morning."
Since making the newspaper's list, Pancoe said his company has received many more inquiries from people interested in the unique vacation experience, which he described as a "super-relaxing trip."
Northern Soul also offers canoe tours with special focuses on belly dancing and photography, as well as custom tours for groups of four or more people.
